Lost Generation, The Story of a Sudanese Orphan by Peter Garang Deng, is Peter’s biography and memoirs of what he went through at the very young age as an orphan child in South Sudan. Peter Garang Deng was born in a small village in southern Sudan, an area already wrecked by decades of civil war. Amazingly, he educated himself and emigrated to the U.S., where he has created a non-profit organization to raise funds to educate orphans in Sudan.Peter Garang Deng founded DOF on January 25th, 2010 under the name NSJOF. On February of the same year, Peter invested $2,500 of his own money into the foundation and the foundation began the scholarship program with two orphaned students. In 2011 the foundation gain momentum and people began to donate to the foundation. In April 23, 2011 Peter published his book the “Lost Generation” the story of a Sudanese Orphan which is all about his life as an orphan child in South Sudan. The book raises the awareness of what the orphaned children are going through in South Sudan and people began to make donations to the foundation. As the result of the book sales and the donations from generous donors, DOF moved from two (2) students to seven (7) students by September of 2011 and on December 2011 the foundation added one (1) more student which brings the total of the students in the NSJOF scholarship program to eight (8) students. DOF is almost over nine years old in the world of nonprofit but it accomplishment so far is incredible. To date, the foundation have educated more 55 students. DOF continues to grow it scholarship program through the help of individuals, private and public donors. As of 2018-2019 DOF Sustainable Future, the foundation is raising funds to build it first school in South Sudan.
